#31DC2014: Day 30 - A tutorial

Everyone has that one mani that they are super proud of. And this is mine - I call it the masterpiece nails <3 Since I am so in love with them I decided to make a quick tutorial on how to make these pretties.

You will need a base polish - I used Catrice Berry Potter & Plumbeldore. Then 3 polishes that stamp over that base. I tested them out first. I decided for Essence stamp me!black Sinful colors My Kryptonite and Essence The Boy next door. The I choose 3 very different patterns of plates QA65, BM212, QA66.

Step 1: After the base is dry you take some sticky tape strips (and I recommend you stick then on some other surfaces first so they loose the stickiness) and randomly apply them to the nail in a way so 1/3 of it is exposed. Then you stamp over that part. Here I used Sinful colors My Kryptonite and QA66.

Step 2: Is the one with all the hard work. You have to have twice as many sticky tapes as before. But the old ones should still be ok. Then apply them over what you already stamped and what you want to stay bare. I recommend that you apply a top coat over what is already stamped so that the sticky tape doesn't accidentally ruin it. I used Essence stamp me! black and QA65.

Step 3: Now apply the sticky tape over everything you stamped so far and stamp over what is left bare. I used Essence the Boy next door and BM212

Then it's time for clean up and some top coat. I love how these turned out so dark and mysterious. This technique is great also if you want something very unique and full of patterns but don't want to use a lot of polish. Because you only need a strip of a stamp you don't use as much of the stamping polish.

So I hope you enjoyed the tutorial and that it will inspire you to try this technique :)

I wore this nails for quite some time! But here you can see that I didn't had the energy for another hand. So I just used the same colors and different shapes on the other hand. So here is a rare 2 hand picture :)

#31DC2014: Day 29 - Supernatural / LoL mani: Amumu the Sad Mummy

Before I start mummies count as Supernatural ... I hope :) And since I started playing LoL Amumu is the 1st mummy that comes to mind. I played him only once and I don't like playing against him because he cries all the time. His superpower is crying! And his sobbing and wailing all the time so I turn the sound off when I see him in game :)

For the mani I wanted to create the bandages and stamp all the Egyptian symbols I could find. Also at the end I drenched everything in tears - because mummies that cry totally make sense ;)

Here is his picture so you can see my inspiration

Amumu the Sad Mummy

This is him in game - can you imagine the sounds his making? :)

#31DC2014: Day 28 - A flag - The fool nails

I never understood this part of the challenge - I don't get excited over flags nor do I have any patriotic feelings so I was at a loss at this point. I was recently rereading my favorite book The Fool by Christopher Moore. It's a parody of Shakespeare's King Lear. In the book the fool becomes the king and I wanted to make a mani that expresses that sentiment. I wanted to make a flag look that matches the story. Mandatory black motley that the fool always wears and a bit of royal blue with crown and sword stamps :)

I love how this turned out :) I feel like it matches the book and story perfectly.

For this mani I used Color club Beyond as base and Essence stamp me! black for the black nails. The accent finger is made with Essence Crush on blue and Mundo de Unas Yellow. The plates I used are HWH - 05, BM08 and BM16 ;)

Since this book is actually the prequel to The Serpent of Venice you can refresh your memory about that story and the mani I did about it HERE

Favorite quote from the book:
Heinous fuckery most foul ;)

Catrice Feathered fall and Jack Daniels

Recently I have reduced my nail polish purchases and increased my make up hoarding. A few days ago the Catrice Limited edition Feathered fall came to our stores. I was relay excited about it - but the polishes were quite unimpressive - very classic fall multi chrome colors. But the make up assortment was amazing. So I got a multi chromed Eyeliner and a Duo-chromed lip gloss full of glitter <3

As you can see from the swatches the Eyeliner has a deep dark chocolate brown base that has a very strong green-blue shimmer in it. And the lip gloss is a dark blood orange color full of red glitters. It is not a one coat gloss so I used a red lipstick as base.

How pretty are these promo pictures?

And here is my outfit I paired with this make up. The make up is very simple but I love how the blue eyeliner shimmer picks up the color in my hair and the red lips are a perfect contrast to them as well.

#31DC2014: Day 26 - Pattern

This time I wanted to go a bit creepy. I was looking at my roses stamps and realised if I try to layer them the right way they will look like blood vessels. And I think it kind off pulled it off. That classic pattern that is created when you are looking at anatomy books.

This mani so surprisingly easy to make. I used Essence Ta-la-ra as base. The stamping polishes I used are Sinful colors Skinny dipping and Essence Kiss of a mermaid. The stamping plate is Infinity 55. And since since people are not shiny and glossy I added some matte top coat :)

#31DC2014: Day 25 - Fashion

The fashion trend that caught my eye this year are neon sweaters and knitted things. Because neons are always connected to summer and knitted sweaters usually aren't. I like this effect that is created when I stamp over a crazy textured polish like China glaze Snow one like you. And this effect so easy to achieve I had to make a quickie tutorial for you all :)

All you need for this mani is a white textured polish I used China glaze Snow one like you *this polish relay needs more love* and 3 very sheer neons by China glaze Surfin for boys, To yacht to handle and Shell-o. And a stamping plate with some swirls on it because they will compliment the texture of the base I used BM406

Apply the 3 polishes on the picture in even rows. Then scrape it off if the colors mix a bit even better! :) Then quickly stamp it on the nail. I can't stress enough that you have to do this all very quickly!

Here is a picture of the base polish before the stamps.

And after the stamps. Don't they look cute?

And at the end a cute inspirational picture so you can see where my idea came from :)

#31DC2014: Day 24 - A book - Christopher Moore The Serpent of Venice

One my all time favorite authors is Christopher Moore and his book the Fool is my all time favorite. But this year he released its sequel the Serpent of Venice. If the Fool was a parody of King Lear then the Serpent of Venice is a mash up parody of The merchant of Venice and Othello. And I loved it!!! Thou it is a bit darker then the 1st book it's still a great read that I would recommend to anyone :)

So the book is about a fool (a jester) that is always dressed in black motley and his crazy adventures in Venice and coastal Italy. He even 'domesticates' a pet sea serpent. The inspiration for the mani was the book cover as you can see below.

For this look I used Essence stamp me!black for the motley parts of the nails. And the blue base is Barry M Blue grape. The stamps are done with the same black essence only with no top coat and Barry M Gold foil. The plates I used are MM05, QA8 and Infinity nails 53.

Here are my nails with the book cover <3

Also this year I was in Venice. And I felts so fancy when I actually knew where the parts of the book where happening. And while reading I was yelling I was there!! So I had to make a pretty pixx with a Venetian mask I got there.

And here is a picture of a dragon egg I did and had to take a photo with since I felt like this is an egg the sea serpent would be hatched from since it's described as being very dark with black scales :)

#31DC2014: Day 23 - Movie - The Great Gatsby

Everyone has that movie that they put on when they get the blues or are just bored. And the Great Gatsby is mine <3 I love how it's filmed - it has a beat and you can dance to it. It's so fast paced and just so pretty. I loved the movie Romeo + Juliet from the same creators and this one is just as perfect <3 All I can do is sigh over it ;)

I wanted to make a mani with the black and gold lines nails that are the main art in the movie promos. And the accent finger was supposed to be glitter based that looks like fireworks with an exploding champagne stamp. I think I failed a bit - but I still love them since they are Gatsby nails ;)

In case you missed it here is the trailer to the Great Gatsby movie. The role I feel like Leonardo Di Caprio was born for ;)

For the mani I used Essence Gold old Buffy and OPI Rainbow connection as base. The stamps are done with Essence stamp me! black, Kiko Gold and Barry M Gold foil. The plates I used are EDM03 and CA-34.

And since I made all my friends watch the movie they decided that the 'theme song' is the official Gin song so when we go out we always bother the DJ to play it ;)

And since this is the Movie part of the challenge I wanted to share with you my favorite Great Gatsby recaps and literary analysis :) Thank you John Green <3

#31DC2014: Day 22 - A song - Calvin Harris : Summer

The song I had on repeat most this year is Calvin Harris Summer! I did these nails in a way that it's filled with all kinds of things that remind me of summer. Even the base polish name Essence Mojito green screams summer to me. The stamps are done with Mundo de Unas and Barry M Gold foil. The plates are LA 08, BM407, HWH-05 and MoYou London Princess 04

Anyone else misses summer like me with all the cold temperatures out there? :(

Here is the song that inspired these nails - thou the video has nothing to do with them :)

#31DC2014: Day 21 - A color

As my FB and IG followers may have noticed I have developed quite a neon yellow addiction during this summer. So the color that inspires me the most is neon yellow! I was blessed enough to find this amazing neon yellow glitter by Claire's named Digi pop. As base I used Essence Ta-la-a because I just love the combination of nudes and neons. And over it all I layered stamps done with QA92 and Essence stamp me!white.

I hope you like this look! I simply love it - do you guys have any color that just stole your heart for no reason? :)

#31DC2014: Day 20 - Water marble

Its no secret that water marbles are the bane of my existence like I said a million times. I just can't seem to master this technique :( But no worries I am a master cheater when it comes to nail art :) So I found a bunch of water marble adjacent stamps and layered them over each other. And the result is amazing <3

For the mani I used Sinful colors Wisp as base. The stamps are done with Mundo de Unas Blue and Neon yellow, also some Essence stamp me! black. The stamps I used are HWH-05, BM406 and a no name Essence plate :) This was fun to make and it was done so fast, also no water required.

Do you ever cheat on your nail art challenges?

#31DC2014: Day 19 - Galaxies

What are these? Ships in space? YEAH! A lot of relay die hard animation fans will know of a little movie Treasure planet! I loved that movie even thou it was not really that much of a hit. I love the original book Treasure island and this is a movie made after this book but with a twist - it's in space <3 Therefore is this mani a dedication to this cool concept. I made a galaxy mani with a ship stamp and some space looking green lines like the ones in the movie when they look at the star charts :)

I added the theme song of the movie so you can see some of the parts and can see my inspiration for the nails :)

For the galaxy part of the mani I used Color club Harp on it, Over the moon, Misslyn Purple rain, OPI Tomorrow never dies, Wet n Wild Darkest hour. The stamps are done with Essence stamp me white, Mundo de Unas Green, the plates I used are BM-H13, HWH - 05 and MoYou London Sci-fi 6.

#31DC2014: Day 18 - Half moons

I was in a hurry and I couldn't find those little sticky ring things you need to make a nice half moon mani. So I just stamped half an egg stamp and embraced it! The base is Yes Love Speckled 65. The stamps are done with MoYou London Festive 14 plate. The polish is Mundo de Unas Yellow.

I just love how strong the contrast is! And next time I promise to make more time so I can aim the stamps better because this is quite a fun and quick solution to a half moon problem ;)
